Description

This guidebook has been written by contacting every single medical school either my email, telephone or personal visit. It include some unique sections with expert advice, insider's tip and very useful summary tables for all 29 medical schools in the UK that are open to undergraduate applicants.

It covers the entire process of getting into medical school, including what to consider when choosing to pursue a medical career, how to decide if Medicine is really for you, insights into making a strong application that stands out in the crowd and much more.

You will find chapters full of advice on how to approach choosing medical schools, based on the style of learning that suits you, what you want from the course (for example, early patient contact, research and teaching opportunities etc.) and also based on your chances of admission (different medical schools place emphasis on different criteria, for example, academic achievement, voluntary commitments, work experience, admissions exams or a combination of these). There are chapters with advice on building your extracurricular portfolio; understanding all the free and paid resources available to prepare for the UKCAT and BMAT; planning and writing your personal statement and acing your interviews.

As the most comprehensive guidebook in the UK – made of over 300 pages, it includes unique sections for undergraduate applicants to help you understand how A level subjects and grades (and the IB and other alternative qualifications) are viewed by different medical schools; the course structure of each programme; the competition ratio of each programme (i.e. how many candidates apply, how many get to interview stage and how many receive offers); as well as the university rankings.

To top it all, and to make it a handy reference book, we have created a mini-chapter for each medical school to give you details on its history, key interesting facts on its facilities and teaching methods, all of which can not only help you choose where to go, but will also give you added points during your interview. For each medical school, we also include details on the programmes available (intercalated degrees), academic and non-academic requirements, eligibility factors such as Access to Medicine courses, Widening Participation schemes, considerations for international students, and details on the selection process and formula to select applicants pre- and post-interviews. Competition ratios, rankings and a medical student opinion is also provided for each medical school.

This guidebook has over 30 collaborators from all UK medical schools and we invite you to read regular updates on our blog http://themsag.com/blog.html for continuous help in your application process.
